Monumental x Schematik x VOUW
On 29 October, Monumental, Schematik and VOUW are bringing hardware, robotics and design together in our Amsterdam studio.
The evening is already full. That is fine. This is not a ticket pitch. It is a sign of what can happen when ambitious builders share a room, show unfinished work and talk honestly about what failed before it worked.

Mingus recently travelled to China to meet people across design, technology and manufacturing.
The trip was about listening, learning and building relationships with people shaping design, technology and manufacturing in China.

AI becomes a physical experience at ADNIGHT
At ADNIGHT, Portrait Booth became part of the night at DEPT's HQ in Amsterdam. DEPT is a global digital marketing and technology agency.
Visitors pressed the button, posed and received a personal AI-generated portrait within moments. Two custom styles turned the conversation around creativity and AI into something people could actually experience and take home.

Things that inspired us this month
🍺 What does a proper Oktoberfest outfit actually cost? More than optimism suggests, apparently.
🖼️ An e-ink artwork that slowly cycles through patent drawings. A screen finally learning patience.
🐙 An octopus-inspired swimming robot that needs only two motors instead of eight. Good mechanics beating unnecessary complexity.
🤖 A tracked LEGO robot carries a full glass of beer across the floor, lifts it onto the coffee table and parks it beside the sofa without redecorating the room. The next version should handle the return trip for the empty glass.
🏐 A volleyball player accidentally hits a courtside attendant with the ball, then delivers an apology with his entire body. A small masterclass in meaning it.
🌍 Ed People asks people around the world to teach him their favourite dance moves. Different cultures, one wonderfully simple way to connect: join in.
🌿 A glimpse of Socotra, Yemen. Beyond the headlines is a place of extraordinary beauty. A reminder of how much there is to cherish, and how heartbreaking it is when war shapes the story of a country.
