Lightbox City Gazing asks the question what would happen if we would turn off all the lights in our home. For every city a separate edition is made. The work is a piece for in your home which will subtly stimulate you to turn off the lights. When doing so, the starry night sky appears that would normally be visible above the displayed city.
A custom design for every city
For every city, a custom design and silk screen print is designed, inspired by NASA images and historical maps. With every Lightbox, the unique growth pattern of that city is shown. The starry sky of Lightbox is also tailored to the exact global coordinates of every edition, showing what the night sky would look like above that specific city.
