Esquire Middle East
Esquire Middle East featured VOUW's spectacular City Gazing Dubai installation in their January 2022 coverage, highlighting how the work offered visitors a unique perspective of the city from space. The publication captured the essence of the 18m x 11m LED installation suspended 8 meters above DIFC Gate Avenue, describing it as "a rendition of satellite images of Dubai made with LEDs set to music."
The article emphasized the work's powerful concept of the "overview effect" - the transformative perspective astronauts experience when viewing Earth from space. As Esquire ME noted, co-founder Mingus Vogel explained that "City Gazing Dubai gives people the chance to experience the 'overview effect', the feeling that astronauts have when they see our planet from the vastness of space. It's an awareness that life on Earth is fragile and that we are all connected."
Running from December 15, 2021 to January 29, 2022, this was VOUW's fourth major City Gazing installation, following successful exhibitions in Amsterdam, Singapore, and Beijing. The Dubai edition specifically traced the city's remarkable transformation from desert arterial roads to a global metropolis, accompanied by a custom soundscape that told the story of Dubai's rapid development.
